Fire testing & performance

Federal Standard 1633 is a rigorous combustion (fire) test for beds and bed materials that requires not only the mattress to be protected from fire but also sets limits for the total heat released during the test.

To comply with the Standard, the test protocol requires multiple tests to be successfully undertaken in carefully monitored situations to prove compliance with the Standard. Fundamentally the actual test involves the application of a high temperature flame to the material for an extended period and is considered to be the world's most demanding test for this category of materials.
